Thea Martin

Growing up on a farm in Campbellville, Ontario, a destination area premised on the rural landscape of the Niagara Escarpment and its small communities, Thea developed a lasting appreciation for rural places and the landscapes that shape them. Her experiences of travelling and studying abroad, including time in New Zealand, broadened her understanding of how landscape, culture, and identity can influence the way people experience a place.

Prior to joining pl.ural, Thea gained experience in landscape design, maintenance, horticultures and recreational environments, especially ski areas and destination resorts. She also gained hands-on experience with plant installation and care, including independent landscape design projects. These experiences have given her an appreciation for both the practical and experiential sides of ‘place-making.’

Thea’s work at pl.ural span conceptual design, and community and publics spaces, with a particular interest in creating places that encourage connection and leave a lasting impression. She enjoys working with clients to understand what they value about a place and brining those ideas to her designs to create opportunities for people to gather, explore, and make lasting memories.

Key projects for Thea include Mount Forest Downtown Parkette Concept, Lambton Kent District School Board Schoolyard Design Concepts, and the Trail Network Plan for Northumberland County Forest.

One of Thea’s favourite aspects of working at pl.ural is discovering new places, meeting the people who call them home, and learning what makes each one unique. Outside the studio, Thea enjoys travelling, running, snow sport, and finding a new recipe to cook or bake.
